Information about the Family History Activity Report (FHAR) for stake and ward leaders.
1. Information about the FHAR
The Family History Activity Report (FHAR) can help ward and stake leaders see levels of family history activity in the ward or stake. Find the report in the Church's Leader and Clerk Resources. The report includes data for all adults and youth in the unit. The report does not cover activity in accounts for members who are still Primary age.
Note: This report does not include Get Involved statistics. To see the Get Involved and Indexing numbers, see the Get Involved Report.
Definitions
- YTD: "Year to date" means the time between the beginning of the current year and the date of the report.
-
Submitter: A member is counted once who submits one or more names for temple work. Here are ways that a submission gets recorded:
- The member prints a Family Ordinance Request.
- The member prints a family name card. The name can be in their own reservation list or obtained through Ordinances Ready. The person can print a card for a name in a Family Group or print a card for a name shared directly by another person.
- The member shares a name with the temple. Sharing with a Family Group does not result in a submission. Sharing with an individual does not result in a submission.
- The system considers that a card was printed when you create a Family Ordinance Request. When you generate the PDF file from which a card can be printed, the system records a submission. Likewise, as soon as a member clicks Take to the Temple in Ordinances Ready, the system considers that cards were printed.
- Convert: A member with a confirmation date in the previous 12 months.
- YSA: Young single adults are single members between the ages of 18 and 35.
-
Four generations: The percentage of an person's first 4 generations that show in Family Tree. Four generations goes through the great-grandparents (15 people). The generations counted include: yourself, 2 parents, 4 grandparents, 8 great-grandparents, for a possible total of 15. If you have 15 out of 15, it is 100%. If you lack a FamilySearch account, it is 0%. For example: If a person has themselves, 2 parents and 3 grandparents, they have 6 out of 15, or 40%. The percentages are averaged across all the adults and youth in the unit.
Report Information
- Members Submitting This Year: Numbers compared to the previous year.

The bar graph shows the current month and the same month of the 2 previous years for comparison. The report represents both adults and youth in the unit.
- Members Logging In to FamilySearch: The number of members who logged in to FamilySearch.org in the current year compared to the two previous years.
-
Members Participating in Family History Activities: The number of members who completed an activity during the current year compared to the previous 2 years.
- Added Ancestor to Tree—added at least one ancestor.
- Added Memory to Tree—added at least one memory item (a photo, a story, a document, or an audio file).
- Indexed—indexed at least one batch of records.
- YTD Submitters Unit Detail: Immediately to the right of the heading, you can click to see the totals or percentages of members who submitted a name to the temple during the month. If you are looking at totals, the first number is the number of people who submitted at least one name for temple work. The second number is the total number who fit in the particular category.
-
Information is updated monthly on the 5th or 6th of the month, based on data through the end of the previous month.

Important Notes
As of May 23, 2019, temple and family history consultants no longer have access to the Family History Activity Report.
In February 2022, the calculation of the first four generations in Family Tree changed.
2. Where to find the FHAR
The Family History Activity Report provides a summary about how much family history activity is occurring in a ward, branch, or stake. Ward and stake leaders can see this report in Leader and Clerk Resources.
Steps
- Go to Leader and Clerk Resources.
- Click the Reports tab.
- Click Family History Activity Report.
If an authorized person cannot see the report, check the calling in the Leader and Clerk Resources system.
3. Changes to the FHAR
A change was recently made to the Family History Activity Report (FHAR). A brief note approved by Elder Kevin S. Hamilton of the Seventy describes this change:
“The “Family History Activity Report” found in Leader and Clerk Resources (LCR) has been adjusted to represent only the Family Trees of members who have a FamilySearch account. This change will result in a lower number of “First Four Generation Trees” reported. This adjustment should give leaders more accurate information about member family history activity in their unit.”
The change has already been implemented from an experience perspective. The workaround that has been used to maintain consistent reporting will be retired. The change provides more accurate reporting and better data governance.
If you have questions about this change or need additional information, please contact your local Priesthood leaders.
4. Questions about the FHAR
If you have questions about the Family History Activity Report (FHAR), please contact your ward or stake leaders.
- If you have a ward-level calling, please contact your ward family history leader.
- If you have a stake-level calling, please contact the high councilor assigned to temple and family history work.
