Navigation Menu Overview

Introduction

FamilySearch provides many tools and resources to help you learn about your family history. Many tool and resource options are accessible through the navigation menu at the top of every FamilySearch web page. Additionally, several sub-categories are available by clicking the category heading on the navigation menu.

The following menu options on the FamilySearch.org website are listed, navigating from left to right, with their associated sub-categories and descriptions.

A: FamilySearch Logo

At the top left of the navigation menu, the FamilySearch Logo is displayed. You can return to the FamilySearch home page from any other web page by clicking the FamilySearch icon.

B: Family Tree

The Family Tree tab contains links to information as described below. Keep in mind that these options may not yet be available in all languages.
 

• Overview: The purpose and global reach of the collaborative Family Tree.
• Tree: The alternate views of the Family Tree. By default, you are displayed as the home person.
• Recents: The option to navigate to your recently viewed people in Family Tree.
• Find: A searchable database of deceased persons previously added to the collaborative Family Tree.
• Following: The ability for you to follow deceased persons' records in the Family Tree and receive notifications when information is added or changed.
• My Contributions: The contributions made by you within the Family Tree.
• Person List: A list of private people added by you. These are only visible to you.
• Family Groups: Create a family group to share a tree, send messages, and share ordinances with family members.
   

C: Search

The Search tab contains links to information as described below. Keep in mind that these options may not yet be available in all languages.
 

• Records: The search page for historical records and record collections. 
• Full Text: Allows users to search unindexed content of historical documents.
• Images: The images of non-indexed historical records available for you to view. 
• Family Tree: A searchable database of deceased persons previously added to the collaborative Family Tree.
• Genealogies: An extensive directory of lineages or pedigrees that people and organizations have shared with FamilySearch. 
• Catalog: A collection of genealogical materials such as books, online materials, microfilm, microfiche, and publications.
• Books: The digital library with over 500,000 genealogy books, family histories, maps, yearbooks, and more.
• Research Wiki: A public genealogy resource guide by topic or location. 
• Cemeteries: Search or browse to find your cemeteries of interest.
• Newspapers: Search historical newspapers through partnerships and integrated tools.
   

D: Memories

The Memories tab contains links to information as described below. Keep in mind that these options may not yet be available in all languages.
 

• Overview: An introduction to FamilySearch Memories. 
• Gallery: The personal collection of memories you have added. 
• People: The memories of ancestors that can be sorted by relationship and surname. 
• Find: The memories searchable by title, topic, or description. 
• Family Feed: Various memories, such as photos, documents, and stories that have been recently added by other users to your family tree.
   

E: Get Involved

The Get Involved tab contains links to information as described below.
 

• Overview: The projects and opportunities available for improving the accuracy of searchable historical records and the Family Tree. 
• Opportunities: Overview of a your contributions in the Get Involved projects. 
• Your Impact: Your contributions help families all over the world find and connect with your ancestors.
• What is Indexing: Participate in indexing activities that help make records discoverable.
   

F: Activities

The Activities tab contains links to information as described below.
 

• All Activities: A collection of fun and engaging online and in-home activities for you and your family to learn about your ancestors and heritage. 
• Together App: Create family groups and capture, share and preserve meaningful family memories.
• Where Am I From?: The ancestral homelands and heritage activities. 
• Surname Origins: The origin, meanings, historical records, and Family Tree Information based on surnames. 
• All About Me: The historical events of you or ancestors based on birth year. 
• Famous Relatives: A place for you to see your familial connections to famous leaders, artists, entertainers, and more. 
• Compare-a-Face: The photo comparison between you and your ancestor’s photos in the Family Tree. 
• Record My Story: A collection of story prompts and audio recording options for you to share your story. 
• Picture My Heritage: A family history experience where you can add your face to photos from various cultures.

G: Temple

The Temple tab contains links to information as described below.
 

• My Reservations: A personal file of previously saved temple ordinances. 
• Family Groups: The files used by family members to collaborate and share in the joy of performing ancestors’ temple ordinances. 
• Shared with Temple: The temple ordinances previously shared with the temple system. 
• Completed: The temple ordinances listed by name, completion date, and temple.
• Ordinances Ready: The option to easily reserve temple ordinances.
• Family Name Assist: Leaders and members quickly find, prepare, and print family name cards for temple ordinances.
• Schedule Temple Appointment: A link to the temple appointment scheduler.
